1. Make it possible to disable global shortucts

   The global shortcut keys are extremely annoying to me, as they interfere with my shortcuts for other programs. For example, I use Ctrl+Alt+N to create a new window in Photoshop, but if TagSpaces is open it creates a new text file instead--not only do I not need that text file and it takes an extra step to delete it, but it prevents Photoshop from creating a new window like it's supposed to. Of course I can set that function to a different set of keys in Photoshop, but it's obnoxious that no matter what other program I am trying to use simultaneously, I have to make sure that my shortcut keys don't overlap with global ones in TagSpaces that I can't use anyway.

   I am using Windows 10.

3. make Tagspaces' UI much more responsive

   I've tried Tagspaces before, 4 or 5 months ago or so, and now look at it again (version 2.1.1, with W 8.1 64bits). My main gripe with it is the incredibly slow user interface. Apart from the fact that the listing of folders in the FolderViz. (what the heck is a 'FolderViz.???) is completely unusable as it is a cloud of thousands of elements which cannot all be displayed on one screen. It takes minutes before the folder is even shown, with only three flashing dots as feedback. And I've only one folder connected to tagspaces!
   When I choose 'Show Files with this tag', it takes a LOT of time for the program to respond. This is wrong. I think the program should immediately acknowledge my request [yes, I see what you want and will now do my best to deliver] and give feedback about what's taking time (and preferably and indication of how much time). It would be a good thing if the developers of tagspaces would direct their attention to the UI.
   This is a pity and I say this with regret as I do appreciate the need for recording metadata. And I like many aspects of the approach by tagspaces, such as the plugin architecture, the fact that it's cross platform. But the fact that the blog states performance is improved does not bode well for the future.

4. Don't reinvent the wheel! Use metadata systems that work!

   Your application has great potential. But...

   Do not use the file name to store metadata! File names should not contain any user generated information. Storing metadata has numerous problems: security, privacy, non-portability, just to name a few.

   If you are going to support every kind of file, then you should use what is already there. Audio, video, image and document files already contain metadata. You have to read that metadata and import it to your application. Don't force the user to reenter all of it.

   Besides format specific metadata, there's also multiformat metadata. It's called XMP. It's even an international standard.

   XMP is right format for what you are trying to accomplish. Support already exist for the most used file formats and those that can't embed the metadata itself can use sidecar files.

   XMP support is widespread and exist in every platform. That make it portable and future proof.

   XMP already supports that metadata of your application without any hacks: Title; Author; Description; Keywords(Tags); Ratings. And if your application generates specific metadata, you can add it in a standard way by using namespaces.

   I suggest that you use XMP sidecar files. XMP sidecar files are just text files with a XML structure, they are very small and anyone edit them, even with a text editor. By using sidecar files you lower the risk of corrupting the users' files when metadata is added.

   There's very good backend support for XMP metadata writing, reading and modification: ExifTool (http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/), Exiv2 (http://www.exiv2.org/) and Adobe XMP SDK (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/xmp.html) and Exempi (http://libopenraw.freedesktop.org/wiki/Exempi/). They are all open source and they are all cross-platform.

   ExifTool can even read other types of metadata in almost every type of file format, form audio to office documents.

   You can use ExifTool to import metadata that already exist in the files.

6. OCR-Engine Integration - Make PDFs searcheable, Autoconvert Pics to PDF, Ect.

   As there are many free and OS libarys for OCR available, this would be a great and very promising feature!
   For larger amounts of PDFs/Scanned Documents in picture file formats, a batch/bulk OCR and pic to PDF conversion would be essential, especially for the many ppl here who want to use it as DMS!
   A full text search function can integrate with this OCRed content!

7. Tag hierarchy

   It would be nice if tags could be added in hierarchy. Eg. if I add a tag "daughter" to picture, the tag "family" would also be present (depending on the hierarchy of tags of course :) ).

8. Add option to hide "hidden" files/folders

   Besides the common files like desktop.ini and default.rdp, some users will mark a file as "hidden" so it doesn't show up. There are others who will want to see their hidden files (maybe in a different color) so I do recommend leaving this as a toggle option but it's definitely something I would like.

9. Create 'QuickTag' Groups and/or be able to select multiple tags at once

   When you want to add multiple tags to a file or files, right now you have to individually select each tag and apply it to the file. I think what could be more efficient is to create 'QuickTag' groups that would allow you to apply every tag in the group to a file or files. This could make it much easier to apply commonly used tags. Another approach would be just to add a function to the current 'Tag Group Operations' menu to apply all the tags in that Tag Group to the file or files. Alternatively, you could accomplish the same thing by being able to select multiple, individual tags at once in the Tag Groups and then apply all of them simultaneously to the file or files.

10. Treat date/time tags as first-class citizens

    It would be nice if TagSpaces treated the "date/time" tags as actual dates rather than plain-text tags. For example, if I have 3 files:

    file1[tag 20131231].pdf
    file2[some-tag 2014].pdf
    file3[some-other-tag 20140512].pdf

    It would be nice if TagSpaces automatically determined those were date tags and allowed you to do special things:

    1. Search for all files within a particular date range. For example, searching for all files from 2014-01-01 through 2014-12-31 would return both file2 and file3. Searching from 2014-07 through 2014-12 would return only file2, etc...
    2. Show the first date/time tag as a separate column in the list perspective.

    This would help for organizing things such as receipts. I should be able to search "?+receipt/2014" (where "/" is some search character that specifies dates) which would return all documents tagged "receipt" with a date somewhere in 2014. Or maybe "?+receipt/201405" for all receipts in May, 2014 or "?+receipt/20140301-20140517" which limits the date range between 2014-03-01 and 2014-05-17.

    As I sort of showed above, if a document is tagged "2014" then it should be returned for any date query that has at least one date in 2014 (for example "?+family/20131201-20140131" would return all documents with the tag "family" within those date ranges and anything with the date "2014". Since we don't know the exact date that document was for in 2014, we assume any date range with a day in 2014 should include that document.

    The same can be done with the month tags. Documents with the date tag "201405" would be returned for any date query that includes at least one day in May 2014.

    The time field should be treated the same way, etc...

    By having that date field pulled out and set as a column in list view, I can now sort my view by it, etc...

    So far TagSpaces seems fantastic!

11. Explorer context menu integration

    Like a Send-to Tagspaces menu in right click menu. With options to move or copy files, and maybe other important menu points i dont think of ATM.

14. Automatically add tags to the Tag Library - Not just Current Folder Tags

    When you have a lot of tags that you have added directly to the files it would be good if TagSpaces then adds it to the tag library so that it is accessible in whatever folder you are in (not just the Current Folder Tags although that is useful).

16. Ability to use shift and ctrl key when selecting files

    When selecting multiple files it would be nice to select the first file and then shift+select the last file and have all the files in between selected. Also, the ability to ctrl+select files like in a typical file system.

17. Auto-save notes while editing (explicit 'Save' not required)

    Auto-save has become common on desktop notetaking and editing applications, because of the risk of app crashes, OS crashes, running out of battery on laptops, etc. OpenOffice and Word now have this by default, and even more obscure apps like Inkscape offer it in Settings. Same for web apps like Google Drive.

    It's actually hard to force myself back into the motions of hitting Ctrl+S every few minutes in TagSpaces; would prefer to have it save automatically as I type.

18. 'Time Planner' window mode.

    Present items containing 'date/time' tags in an 'agenda' or 'calendar' view. Tagspaces as a weekly planner!

    The idea is to leverage date/time tags with an extension to the existing Smart Tag system (which is already good and should remain).

    When I create a note or download a file that I want to work on next Tuesday, for example, I could tag with the date and the time (and possibly a duration, such as '2 hours').

    Then I could click on 'agenda' and view a 5 or 7-day calendar-style planner, where I can scan all of the items that I've scheduled (using smart tags) for the week, and adjust things around as needed. This way I can dynamically plan how I spend my time!

19. Problem using tag to Autocad file about changing the filename

    I like this file manage system very much.

    but I have some problems as below:

    I am a Autocad file (.dwg) user. I have many link between the file, for example, in A.dwg file will have some xref files B.dwg, C.dwg inside A.dwg. but this tagspaces system is changing the filename for the tag, so every time after i make some tags on B.dwg and C.dwg, when i open A.dwg, I need to relocate the xref B.dwg and C.dwg.

    I have many autocad files. if I use this tagspaces system to manage the files, then I will need to go inside every file to relocate the xref location. would you have some way to solve this problems?

    Just for some ideas, instead of changing the filename, could we create a hidden-file(table) in every folder. and this table record all the file information including the tag in this folder. and every time just to go to check/revise/store that table for database?

    when I try to tag some files, could the system auto put up some hints tag (which I have create before) when I just type a character. for example, I have create tags: [tree] [timber] [wood] [top]. so, want I type t, then the system will auto Appear [tree], [timber], [top] for me to choose? just like the evernote did. Or should I have some better way to do that?

20. allow multi-select files to be enqueued in the native application (send to a playlist)

    Allow for a selection of files to be enqueued in the default program - basically would allow multiple files to be sent to a media player as a playlist selection.
