Don't reinvent the wheel! Use metadata systems that work!
Your application has great potential. But...
Do not use the file name to store metadata! File names should not contain any user generated information. Storing metadata has numerous problems: security, privacy, non-portability, just to name a few.
If you are going to support every kind of file, then you should use what is already there. Audio, video, image and document files already contain metadata. You have to read that metadata and import it to your application. Don't force the user to reenter all of it.
Besides format specific metadata, there's also multiformat metadata. It's called XMP. It's even an international…

Tag hierarchy
It would be nice if tags could be added in hierarchy. Eg. if I add a tag "daughter" to picture, the tag "family" would also be present (depending on the hierarchy of tags of course :) ).

Ability to use shift and ctrl key when selecting files
When selecting multiple files it would be nice to select the first file and then shift+select the last file and have all the files in between selected. Also, the ability to ctrl+select files like in a typical file system.

Emulate Evernote's easy interface
Hi Guys,
I have been looking for a while for something to replace Evernote and was incredibly excited to find Tagspaces! So thank you for taking the initiative to build it!
But as much as I want to use tagspaces, I feel that right now the interface is too much effort to us (click to edit, click to save, double click to view file), the navigation panels require learning a new logic. As much as I dont want to use Evernote, I have to admit their interface is much easier and pleasant to use.
I will argue that if Tagspaces'…

Auto-save notes while editing (explicit 'Save' not required)
Auto-save has become common on desktop notetaking and editing applications, because of the risk of app crashes, OS crashes, running out of battery on laptops, etc. OpenOffice and Word now have this by default, and even more obscure apps like Inkscape offer it in Settings. Same for web apps like Google Drive.
It's actually hard to force myself back into the motions of hitting Ctrl+S every few minutes in TagSpaces; would prefer to have it save automatically as I type.

Adding "open natively setting"
It would be awesome to add an ability to set "open natively" setting to certain file types, for example to .mp4 videos open in VLC or .mp3 files to open in Winamp by simply double-clicking the file:)

Add tag to directory only
I want to be able to tag directories like files. Tags are on directory NOT recursively tag files inside the directory.
Directory named "adirectory", when tagged with "ReadMe", it becomes "adirectory[ReadMe]". but files inside does not change.
This is very useful because more and more consumable media are no longer single file only. For example an audio book comes with a directory with many mp3 files. If I have 15 audio book novels and each have 50 mp3s. I want to tag "ReadNow", "Done", "Later" then I have to tag every files. When search every files…

OCR-Engine Integration - Make PDFs searcheable, Autoconvert Pics to PDF, Ect.
As there are many free and OS libarys for OCR available, this would be a great and very promising feature!
For larger amounts of PDFs/Scanned Documents in picture file formats, a batch/bulk OCR and pic to PDF conversion would be essential, especially for the many ppl here who want to use it as DMS!
A full text search function can integrate with this OCRed content!39 votes -

Tag support for multiple word names
Hi,
Firstly thanks for this awesome app. I was looking for an evernote alternative that i can use on linux. And surprisingly, although not mentioned by many linux blogs, Tagspaces is the closest one can get to evernote.
I could have used evernote using Wine, but i will prefer apps that have versions for Linux.Tagspaces does almost all the jobs.
Only niggle, that kept me from shifting permanently to Tagspace, is the inability to add multiple words in the same tag.
I am a medical physician. For example if you need to add a tag ' Blood sugar' in…37 votes -

Allow setting links between files.
So that I can refer in one file to another file and browse to it by clicking on the link. At least for html files, this should be easy to realise.

Text notes should be editable by default
When I open a text note, I usually want to edit it immediatelly, i.e. the way it's done in Evernote nowadays. So it would be more convenient that I don't have to click on the "Edit current file" icon.
